Small Travel Tips in Asakusa

Even for Japanese people Asakusa is a special place. People can forget about their dairy lives and experience something extraordinary. Here are some small tips when you visit Asakusa!

1: START EXPLORING AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE
Asakusa is one of the busiest places in Tokyo. I would recommend to start exploring early in the morning, around 8 am/9 am. Too early? Well, you can see the Kaminarimon Gate, the temple, shrine and Nakamachi shopping street in a quiet, clean and fresh morning atmosphere.

2: ENJOY THE BYGONE ERA OF JAPAN IN DENBOUIN-DORI STREET
In this 200-meter-long street you can see old Japanese buildings. They have an Edo period design and give a feeling that you have been transported back in time. There are also interesting signboards, shops and restaurants. If you want to try Tendon/Tempura then I would recommend "Daikoku-ya" located within this street.

3: ENJOY EVERYTHING!
There are so many interesting things around Sensoji-TempleYou'll be taken aback by how big the temple is. You can get Omikuji (a fortune slip), surround yourself with incense smoke (It's said the smoke has the power to heal parts of your body), walk around, and find good places to take picturesAsakusa Shrine next to Sensoji- Temple is small, but also beautiful and an interesting place.

4: OUTSIDE THE GATE...
After enjoying the shrine area I would recommend buying some delicious Japanese sweets.
You can get Ningyo-Yaki at Kibundo-Sohonten, Dorayaki at Kameju. Ningyo-yaki and Dorayaki are made with pancakes and have a sweet bean paste filling.

When you are too tired of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo..2

Kagurazaka is 20 minutes from Shinjuku, I like to call this area-"Little Kyoto". There are a few temples, stone-paved paths, old Japanese house restaurants, Geisha and so on.

On the other hand, Kagurazaka is an area of French culture as "Institut-FRANCAIS du JAPON" is located in the area. The contrast between old Japanese culture and French style makes the area very interesting.

Unlike most of Tokyo Kagurazaka isn't too busy or crowded so you can relax and enjoy walking around without rushing.

You can go to stylish Japanese cafes, for example "Saryo" and "Kinozen", buy Taiyaki (fish shaped sweets with sweet red beands paste) at ”Kuriko-an”. It's also a good place to buy souvenirs for friends and family as there is a huge variety of stores. For dinner or a good drink? You can enjoy fantastic miso ramen at "Kurobe", various beers at "YEBISU BAR", or you can just pick a nice Izakaya from the many small Izakaya's in the area.

Just a small walk around the area makes you feel like you're experiencing life in Japan.
